Regional offices
- EFI Mediterranean Regional Office (EFIMED), located in Barcelona (Spain). EFIMED was established in July 2007 as a pilot. The Regional Office focuses on forest issues of particular importance to the Mediterranean region, including non-timber values of forests. The Head of the Regional Office is Dr. Marc Palahi[1]
- EFI Central European Regional Office (EFICENT) and the Observatory for European Forests (EFICENT-OEF). Since 2009, EFICENT aims at promoting and supporting national, transboundary and European-wide collaboration in research and information provision, and strengthening networking in the Central European region and through the OEF at European scale. General topics with regional focus are changing environmental conditions and multifunctional demands towards forest, while the OEF addresses timber and socio-economics and criteria and indicators, information needs & policy decision support in a European context. EFICENT and the OEF have distributed locations in Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany), Nancy (France) and Zurich (Switzerland). It is headed by Mr. Andreas Schuck (Freiburg, Germany), Dr. Patrice Harou heads the OEF (Nancy, France)[2].
- EFI Atlantic European Regional Office (EFIATLANTIC), located in Bordeaux (France). EFIATLANTIC covers the region of the Atlantic Rimfocusing on the sustainable management and competitive utilization of planted forest resources. EFIATLANTIC was launched in spring 2009. The Head of the Regional Office is Dr. Christophe Orazio[3].
- EFI Central-East European Regional Office (EFICEEC), located in Vienna (Austria). EFICEEC covers a region extending from the Baltic Countries down to South Eastern Europe, with three broad work areas: forest sector policy and economics; land use change in the context of climate change and bio-energy; and forest ecosystem management. The Regional Office was launched in April 2010. The Head of EFICEEC office is Dr. Bernhard Wolfslehner[4].
- EFI North European Regional Office (EFINORD), located in Copenhagen (Denmark). EFINORD covers the Nordic countries and the countries in the Baltic Sea region and the North Atlantic region. EFINORD launched its activities in April 2010, and is headed by Mr. Mika Mustonen. The two thematic issues of EFINORD will be biomass production and ecosystem services, with cross-cutting themes of climate change, environmental economics and governance and policy[5].
