Soil condition is the 23 indicator in the ToSIA system.

Indicator's description: Soil condition as expressed by chemical soil properties, and soil compaction.

Sub-indicators

  • Chemical soil properties related to soil acidity and eutrophisation classified by main soil types:
    • a) pH (pH classes)
    • b) CEC (cmol per kg)
    • c) C:N ratio (ratio)
    • d) organic C (g per kg)
    • e) base saturation (% - calculated as sum base cations CEC * 100)
    • f) site nutrient budget averaged over total rotation period - N, P, K, Ca, Mg (% difference over total rotation period)
  • Soil compaction from machine operations (soil density in kg per dm3)
