Definitions

There are definitions of Institution,Policy process, Policy instrument. One definition might not be clear and/or it might contradict your own knowledge, please voice your concerns on the definition's talk page.--Paul Rougieux 12:01, 2 December 2011 (CET)

Metadata elements

In this section we discuss the practical entry of metadata elements in the Template:EFI_policy_portal.

Type of template

  1. Institution
  2. Policy process
  3. Policy instrument
  4. a new type of template is "policy process and instrument", for pages that belong to both categories, see for example Convention_on_the_Conservation_of_European_Wildlife_and_Natural_Habitats

Templates are not working --Leticia Hermoso 00:50, 2 December 2011 (CET)

Fixed on this page. Please other pages which don't work. --Paul Rougieux 10:03, 2 December 2011 (CET)

Description and Objective

For your information I moved "Description" and "Objective" at the top of the metadata elements, hope it's easier to enter data that way. --Paul Rougieux 17:34, 17 November 2011 (CET)

I am checking--Leticia Hermoso 17:39, 17 November 2011 (CET)

Keywords

Keywords can now be entered that way:

|Keywords = A/B/C/D... there is currently a limit of 10 Keywords.

--Paul Rougieux 13:31, 24 November 2011 (CET)

Linkages

  • Linkages has now been changed and the template variable becomes:
|Linkages=

--Paul Rougieux 15:11, 30 November 2011 (CET)

Target

Target = Migratory species threatened with extinction
  • That is enough. Avoid long sentences, they rather should be placed under description/objvestives….but the main target is MIGRATORY SPECIES….that is it!
  • Other examples: Biodiversity loss, Water pollution, Sustainable forest management….etc….Let me know if it is clear now or you have other questions….I will send you an updated look-up tables next week hopefully...

Logos

It is now possible to entre logos. We can have a talk on this later on. See for example an uploaded logo on this page: Financial_Instrument_for_the_Environment_LIFE

I have to write down the name of the logo file ?
Please sign your comments by using the signature button above :) On your own page its easy to guess :) but on other pages of the policy portal it becomes hard to know who wrote the comment.
  1. Yes first take a logo image and resize it to approximately 300 px wide (ask me if you need help with that) and save it as png under "policy_instrument_name_logo.png‎" or as jpg under "policy_instrument_name_logo.jpg"
  2. Then you can upload the image by clicking the "Upload file" link in the left menu (upload a file on the local wiki from your local machine).
  3. Then simply enter the name of the image in your template as such |Logo = policy_instrument_name_logo.png‎
See example in Financial_Instrument_for_the_Environment_LIFE --Paul Rougieux 15:35, 30 November 2011 (CET)

Workflow

I think this workflow explaining steps to create a website is inspiring:

These are the basic steps when creating a website with CMS Made Simple:
  1. Plan -- Determine what pages you want (structure) and how you want these pages to look (design).
  2. Create Templates -- Create one or several template(s) that determine the layout of your pages.
  3. Style the Templates -- Attach one or more stylesheets to each template and style the layout and content with CSS.
  4. Create Pages -- Then you create pages, add content to them and select what template to use for each page.
When a user navigates to your site the page is created from the template, adding the content where the placeholder(s) are in the template.

I would like to create a similar workflow for creating pages on the policy portal. Could you help start it? --Paul Rougieux 14:07, 25 January 2012 (CET)

Workflow for Policy Portal

  1. Go to the Excel list of policy information sources and choose one policy instrument, process or institution
  2. Search the metadata for the selected policy instrument, process or institution in its corresponding Webpage
  3. Introduce the metadata in wiki following the template according its category
