DC 2011 s'incrit dans la lignée des réunions fondatrices, qui ont démarré à Dublin en 1995, puis de celle des conférences du DCMI de Tokyo 2001 à Pittsburgh 2010.

Thème de la conférence

Les métadonnées jouent un rôle de plus en plus important dans le paysage actuel du web, permettant la gestion de ressources distribuées à large échelle. Les dernières années ont vu une croissance dans les interactions entre des communautés auparavant disjointes, qui produisaient des métadonnées spécifiques et qui veulent maintenant réaliser des coopérations ou des échanges entre différents domaines. Cependant les standards de métadonnées ne savent pas encore répondre aux besoins d'interopérabilité entre ces groupes de standardisation indépendants. Pour ces raisons, la notion d'harmonisation des métadonnées, définie comme l'interopérabilité entre des assemblages de spécifications de métadonnées, émerge comme un enjeu fondamental pour l'avenir des métadonnées sur le web.

Recent years has seen a growth in interaction between previously relatively isolated metadata communities, driven by the need for cross-domain collaboration and exchange. However, metadata standards have not been able to meet the needs of interoperability between independent standardization communities. For this reason the notion of metadata harmonization, defined as interoperability of combinations of metadata specifications, has arisen as a core issue for the future of web-based metadata.

Adossée au socle des profils d'application, l'harmonisation des métadonnées est encore mal connue, mais représente un enjeu critique pour la conception de langages de description. DC 2011 veut explorer les aspects pratiques et théoriques de leur conception lorsque les langages utilisés doivent faire émerger une fertilisation croisée de différentes spécifications de métadonnées.	Resting at the heart of application profiles, metadata harmonization presents a little understood, but critical challenge in design of languages of description. DC-2011 will explore the conceptual and practical issues of design when the language solution calls for cross-fertilization from different metadata specifications.

Autour de cette thématique, les contributions attendues, articles, rapports et posters couvrent un large spectre de sujets relatifs aux métadonnées, par exemple :

• Métadonnées, principes, recommandations et bonnes pratiques ;
• Qualité des métadonnées (méthodes, outils et pratiques) ;
• Modèles et cadres conceptuels (plus précisément RDF, DCAM, OAIS...) ;
• Profils d'application ;
• Génération de métadonnées (méthodes, outils, et pratiques)
• Interopérabilité des métadonnées à travers les domaines d'application, les langues, les données temporelles, les structures et échelles ;
• Usages génériques des métadonnées (archivage, préservation, curation, archives institutionnelles, édition numérique)
• Métadonnées spécifiques de domaines d'application (par exemple : sociétés, héritage culturel, éducation, gouvernement, et domaines scientifiques) ;
• Normes bibliographiques (telles que RDA, FRBR, indexation) comme base des vocabulaires du web sémantique ;
• Métadonnées relatives à l'accessibilité ;
• Métadonnées pour les objets la science, l'e-Science et ses applications distribuées (grilles) ;

Soumissions

• All submissions for papers, reports, poster abstracts, and community workshop and special session must do so here through the DCMI Peer Review System (see link at bottom of page).
• Author registration with the peer review system and instructions for the submission process appear under the "Information for Authors" link.
• All submissions must be in English.
• All submissions will be peer-reviewed by the International Program Committee.

Publication

• Accepted papers, project reports and poster abstracts will be published in the official Conference Proceedings at http://dcpapers.dublincore.org/ojs/pubs.
• Special session and community workshop session abstracts will be published in the online conference program.
• Papers, research reports and poster abstracts must conform to the appropriate formatting template available through the DCMI Peer Review System.
• Unless previously arranged, accepted papers, project reports and posters must be presented at The Hague by at least one of their authors.
• Submitting authors in all categories must provide basic information regarding current professional positions and affiliations as a condition of acceptance and publication.

Types de contributions

Articles complets (8 à 10 pages)

Ces articles doivent décrire dans le détail un travail original et innovant ou présenter un état de l'art dûment référencé sur des développements clés ou des bonnes pratiques concernant les sujets cités précédemment. Les articles seront évalués selon les critères suivants :

1. Originalité de l'approche et de la mise en œuvre ;
2. Qualité de la contribution vis à vis de la communauté des développeurs et praticiens ;
3. Importance des résultats présentés ;
4. Clarté de la présentation.

Rapports de projet (4-5 pages)

Project reports describe a specific model, application, or activity in a concise presentation. Project reports will be assessed using the following criteria:

1. Conciseness and completeness of technical description
2. Usability of the technical description by other potential implementers
3. Clarity of presentation

Posters & démonstrations (1-2 pages)

Posters are for the presentation of projects or research under development or late-breaking results. Poster proposals should consist of a one-two page extended abstract. Posters will be assessed using the following criteria:

1. Concise statement of research or project goals and milestones
2. Significance of the research or project
3. Framing of key barriers and future research
4. Statement of results and accomplishments
5. Clarity of presentation

One or more sessions will be scheduled for display and discussion of posters at the conference venue. Instructions on the preparation of the display poster will be forthcoming on the conference website. Unless otherwise arranged, accepted posters must be presented at The Hague by at least one of their authors. However, with prior arrangement, posters abstracts may be included in the published proceedings and presented by means of video ranging from 4-10 minutes in length and uploaded to YouTube with the URL supplied at the time the poster abstract is submitted.

Sessions spéciales et ateliers de groupes de travail du DCMI

Proposals for special sessions and community workshop sessions should be 800-1,200 words in length including a 35-50 word abstract for use in publicizing the session. Session proposals must identify the:

• Session conveners
• Where applicable, categories of target participants
• Session:
  • Purpose
  • Agenda
  • Activities (including any technical requirements)
  • Ramp-up and follow-through (including after-conference reporting)
  • Workshop session proposals must identify the specific DCMI community (see http://www.dublincore.org/groups/#communities)

Conveners of accepted sessions will be expected to work closely with the Workshop Chair to refine, schedule and convene their session. The Workshop Chair, in consultation with the Conference Committee, will review special session proposals. The Workshop Chair, in consultation with the chairs/co-chairs of the relevant DCMI communities, will review community workshop proposals. Evaluation criteria for session proposals will be:

1. Quality and organization of content
2. Justification of format
3. Evidence of interactivity and participatory approaches
4. inclusivity/diversity of participation
5. Potential of the session to engage the conference participants in general and, for workshop sessions, the community of interest in particular (including any necessary technical outreach beyond the venue (e.g., Skype))

2010-12-17, We are pleased to announce that DC-2011, the eleventh International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications, will take place at the National Library of the Netherlands in The Hague from 21 through 23 September 2011. The National Library of the Netherlands (KB) fosters the national infrastructure for scientific information and plays an important role in the permanent access to digital information at an international level. The KB has been involved in many international research projects in the field of digital libraries and hosts the offices of The European Library and Europeana. The European Library Office is coordinating the local organization of DC-2011. Further information about the conference will be made available in January 2011.
