The French National Forest Programme (French: Programme forestier national, PFN) is a response to the various commitments entered into by France, and provides analysis and presents proposals for the sustainable development of the forest-wood sector in France. It aims to give more visibility to the forest-wood sector in France and in the overseas territories. The NFP covers the period 2006-2015. It takes into account the major current issues concerning forest management to define issues to be implemented in the French forest policy. The NFP was developed in close consultation between the major stakeholders in the forest-wood sector.

Objective
  • Increasing the use of wood and improving the processing of forestry products for the development of employment and wealth creation
  • Increasing the relative importance and competitiveness of industries downstream in the supply chain
  • Increasing the contribution of the forest-wood-paper sector to combating climate change and assisting development of wood energy and wood as an ecomaterial
  • Promoting sustainable forest management that combines production with biodiversity preservation and enhancement
  • Taking action at different levels : local to international level
Target Forest and forestry, international and European commitments, sustainable development, forestry wood chain.
Monitoring, assessing and reporting Each year, the CSFPFTB must submit to the Government an annual report containing an economic and social overview of the forest, wood and forest product sector. This report is then adapted to permit the establishment of an accompanying evaluation of the performance of the National Forest Programme
