Abstract
For the benefit of the readers and the authors of this special issue on electronic scholarly editing, this short article introduces the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) and the TEI Consortium (TEI-C), which are mentioned and referred to throughout this issue and it provides many suggestions for further reading.
