Abstract
A novel haptic rendering technique using a hybrid surface representation addresses conventional limitations in haptic displays. In particular, the system consists of the visual and haptic processes run on a PC with dual Intel Xeon 2.4-GHz CPUs, 1 Gbyte of RAM, and FireGLX1 video card. The visual rendering implementation is OpenGL based and uses a 3-DOF Phantom haptic device for display.
