Lunar and Planetary Institute
The Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) is a research institute that provides support services to the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) and the planetary science community, and conducts planetary science research under the leadership of staff scientists, visiting researchers, and postdoctoral fellows.
The Lunar and Planetary Institute is a division of the Universities Space Research Association (USRA). It was established during the Apollo missions to foster international collaboration and to serve as a repository for information gathered during the early years of the space program.
It is based in Houston (United States).

Organization of the LPI
The LPI maintains a resident scientific staff (10 scientists) whose main tasks are to provide the planetary expertise necessary for the Institute to achieve its goals, and to maintain their scientific proficiency through peer-reviewed research activities. It also hosts twenty-two visiting scientists, ten postdoctoral fellows, and one graduate fellow.
