Since 1927, World soil congresses have been held regularly, and are now scheduled every 4 years. The serie was initiated by the International Society of Soil Science (ISSS), which became the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) in 1998. The official announcement was made on the last day of the 16th World Congress of Soil Science (Montpellier - France).
Management
The IUSS is currently led by :
- President : Prof. Roger Swift (Australia)
- Vice-President : Prof. Neal Menzies (Australia)
- Secretary-General : Prof. Stephen Nortcliff (United Kingdom)
- Deputy Secretary-General : Dr. Alfred E. Hartemink (The Netherlands)
The World Congress of Soil Sciences serie
- 2014 : 20th World Congress will be held in Seoul (South Korea)
- 2010 : 19th World Congress will be held in Brisbane (Australia)
