Abstract

In the framework of a cooperation between the Pont-à-Mousson Research Center and the CRIN laboratory, we have designed an expert system for an optimal help in fault processing. The field of investigation concerns a certain category of boilers for central heating and warm water production. In this paper, we present the general problem of troubleshooting, the expert knowledge transfer phase, the knowledge formalization and the design of the demonstrator, able to treat about fifty possible causes from twenty preliminary formulations of the failure pieces of evidence.
