Abstract
at the conceptual design phase, designers are compelled to translate the application requirements into effective solutions expressed as abstract specifications not biased by techniczl issues. in this paper, we present a conceptual framework that provides hypermedia disigners with mechanisms to produce such platform-independent specifications. In particular, hypermedia design is faced in this framework from five complementary prespectives (data, process, control, navigation and presentation) which are analysed in this paper. the framewoek consists of a two-level hierarchical structure of design entities : low-level entities, that are the elements of a formal model for hypermedia applications called labyrinth, are combined to produce of high-level design entities that provide more abstract views of the application. the framework also tries to address some requirements concerning collaborative environments such as the definition of groups and hyperdocument personalisation, Inaddition, designers can specify the security policy that will govern the hyperdocument usage ny means of a security model included in the framework, which uses objects classification and context-dependent uset clearances to preserve both confidentiality and integrity. Moreover, it proposes a design entity gathering presentation features as well as a formalism to specify both synchronism and alignments (or space-based relationships) among multimedia contents.
