Abstract

Navigation in multimedia documents differs from the navigation in classical documents the fact that temporal information must be handled at each instant of the presentation. In Madeus, a multimedia authoring and presentation tool developed in our project, we have defined a presentation context which holds this information. In this paper, we will discuss how presentation context is defined, calculated and used for the temporal navigation. We introduce the notion of Tic and Tac instants which correspond to the most meaningful instants in the presentation of multimedia documents, and we describe how they can be used to navigate through documents.
