Abstract
The steric barrier to rotation ΔG‡ of the Cr(CO)3 rotor of a syn-facial heterobimetallic cyclohexadienylbenzylidene (Cr, Mn) complex has been determined by 13C-NMR low-temperature experiments. The latter compound was prepared from a (η6-arene)tricarbonylchromium complex isotopically enriched in 13C by photolytic mono-decarbonylation and carbonylation with labelled CO. This 13C dynamic NMR study presents the first example of the freezing of the rotational motion of Cr(CO)3 that takes place at moderately low temperatures (‡G‡253 K = 15 kcal·mol−1).
