Abstract
Abstract: Although virus-specific CD4+ T cells have proven to be a critical component of the immunologic control of chronic viral infections in a number of models, the role and even the existence of HIV-1-specific CD4+ T cells in human HIV-1 infection has been controversial. Recent advances in quantifying and functionally characterizing HIV-1-specific T cells may shed light on the participation of these cells in anti-HIV-1 host defense.
