Abstract
While the long-term success of osseointegrated implants has been demonstrated in the dental literature, implant failure does occur as a result of various factors. The purpose of this investigation was to identify clinical and/or microbiological differences associated with failure in five implant systems. At the conclusion of this 7.5-year investigation, 67 of 958 implants were determined to have failed. An overall failure rate of 7.0% was evident in this study, which, depending on the particular system, ranged from 4.7% to 15.2%.
