Abstract

Summary: Altogether too many “problem denture patients” may be exemplified by the painful inflamed mouth of the denture wearer shown in Fig. 22. Despite the best prosthodontic efforts, including evaluation of nutritional factors, electrolyte evaluation and hormonal disease, allergic, and systemic medication, this patient failed to respond favorably. It would seem that, although some inroads have been made in comprehending the problems of tissue tolerance, much remains to be done before more accurate and more meaningful evaluations of the oral mucosa are possible prior to complete denture construction.
