10.1177/1066480705282085THE FAMILY JOURNAL: COUNSELING AND THERAPY FOR COUPLES AND FAMILIES / January 2006EDITORIAL Editorial The International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC) will be honoring Jon Carlson and Mary Kay Nieponski for their contributions to The Family Journal (TFJ) at the annual conference of the American Counseling Association (ACA) in Montreal. As editor of TFJ since its inception, Jon Carlson created a journal that is well respected and valued by members of IAMFC and other pro- fessionals in marriage and family therapy. As the new editors of TFJ, we pay tribute to Jon, Mary Kay, and Candace Ward Howell for the commitment, work, and creativity that has established the foundation for our editorship. As you read this issue, you will note some changes and some familiar features. Perhaps the biggest difference in TFJ is not immediately visible. While envisioning the future TFJ, initiating an online submission and review process seemed a logical first step. This online process has been well received by authors and reviewers during the start-up phase. Another step is the focus on international aspects of IAMFC by contin- uing to increase the number of international TFJ editorial board members and encouraging manuscript submissions from international colleagues. Publishing an occasional arti- cle in English and another language will be another way of reaching out to our international members. ACA President Patricia Arredondo has started this tradition by graciously agreeing to publish her 2005 ACA presentation in English and Spanish in this, our first issue. Bilingual projects are planned for future issues. Active and dedicated TFJ editorial board members have responded with professionalism and enthusiasm to support the scholarly mission of the journal in the areas of practice, theory, and research. These energetic IAMFC members on the editorial board review at least one manuscript a month, sometimes more. Section editors have additional responsibil- ities to stay abreast of latest developments in the field and to solicit manuscripts from leading scholars and practitioners. Section editors concentrate on special topic areas in an effort to inform IAMFC members about innovative ideas and pro- fessional trends. Mary Kay Nieponski has agreed to continue her work as editor of the book review section. Finally, the new editors wish to express their appreciation for the support of Dean Dee Hopkins of the College of Educa- tion at Texas A&M UniversityCorpus Christi who has pro- vided office space, phone, technology, and doctoral assistants to sustain TFJ during our tenure as editors. We look forward to the challenge of the next 3 years and are eager to pursue this new venture. During the 2005 ACA conference in Atlanta, your new editor commented to a group of colleagues at the annual editorial board meeting that we had "big shoes to fill" as we follow Jon Carlson's editorship of TFJ. One colleague responded, "You only need to fill your own." With this issue, we begin our journey. --Kaye W.
