Aurostibite
Sommaire
COLOR
White, with a pinkish cream tint by comparison with native antimony. Takes a good polish with no scratches. Tarnishes in air.
REFLECTANCE
Very strong. Slightly lower than antimony. Definitely higher than arsenopyrite or pyrite.
ANISOTROPISM
Isotropic.
TEXTURE
Aurostibite is pratically always associated with gold, antimony or both, for it often occurs by reaction of these two metals. Texture is identical to that observed in maldonite, in contact with gold and bismuth.
ASSOCIATED MINERALS
Gold, antimony, arsenopyrite, stibnite, berthierite.
CRITERIA OF DETERMINATION
Like maldonite, isolated aurostibite is difficult to identify. However, it mae be somewhat easyli identified because of the constant association with gold and antimony. Other criteria are as follows: metallic luster; polishes better than metals. Also its pinkish shade in ordinary light.
