Forest policy instruments encompass a wide range of tools and approaches used by governments at all levels to achieve a desired effect (e.g. sustainable forest management) or to address a particular problem (e.g. illegal logging). The three basic types of forest policy instruments include:
- Regulatory instruments
- Economic (or financial) instruments
- Informational instruments
