Abstract
Little has been known about the characteristics of long-term resettlement of overconsolidated and/or organic soft ground due to secondary compression after removal of the preload. Series of laboratory experiments were conducted using different types of soil in order to make clear the characteristics of long-term resettlement. On the basis of the experimental results, the characteristics of long-term resettlement such as rebound ratio, resettlement point and rate of secondary compression are expressed by the plasticity index (P.I.), overconsolidation ratio (OCR) and preloading time (tp)
