Abstract

Abstract: Starting from the Boltzmann equation a derivation of the hydrodynamical equations is presented. Some basic concepts required in solving the hydrodynamical equations by means of finite-difference schemes are discussed together with the errors and problems arising during this process. An alternative solution method, called Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics, is also discussed. Finally, two applications concerning the evolution of clusters of galaxies and the formation of galaxies in a cold dark matter cosmogony are briefly outlined.

<abstract lang="en">Abstract: Starting from the Boltzmann equation a derivation of the hydrodynamical equations is presented. Some basic concepts required in solving the hydrodynamical equations by means of finite-difference schemes are discussed together with the errors and problems arising during this process. An alternative solution method, called Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics, is also discussed. Finally, two applications concerning the evolution of clusters of galaxies and the formation of galaxies in a cold dark matter cosmogony are briefly outlined.</abstract>
