Abstract
Canadian Geospace Monitoring Science Meeting; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, 20 February 2011 Ground‐based instrument arrays provide an effective and low‐cost means of remotely sensing the magnetosphereionosphere‐ thermosphere system (i.e., geospace). Such distributed arrays provide spatial and temporal coverage unmatched by in situ satellite observations. When complementary instrument arrays simultaneously observe the same region of geospace, the resulting data sets provide a wealth of information for geospace research and space weather forecasting. The Canadian Geospace Monitoring program (CGSM), and its ancestors, has supported deployment and operation of such instrument arrays across northern Canada since the early 1980s.
