<b>Grammati Pantziou</b>
received her PhD in computer science from the University of Patras, Greece, in 1991. She is currently a professor of the Department of Informatics of the Technological Educational Institution of Athens, Greece. She was a researcher at the Computer Technology Institute, Patras, Greece (1985–1992), a research assistant professor at the Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, USA (1992–1994), an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL, USA (1994–1995), and a senior researcher at the Computer Technology Institute, Patras, Greece (1995–1998). She joined the Department of Informatics of the Technological Educational Institution of Athens in 1998, and she served as head of the department from September of 2003 until September of 2008. Her main research interests include parallel and distributed computing, optimization algorithms, mobile ad hoc and wireless sensor networks, pervasive and mobile computing, and security issues in computing environments. She has published more than 90 papers in major international computer science journals and conferences. She has served as a program and organizing committee member of several international conferences and schools. Her research was funded by the European community, the Greek state, and the National Science Foundation of the USA. She has participated as a coordinator and/or key researcher in more than 15 research and development projects.</p>

<b>Fillia Makedon</b>
received a doctorate in computer science from the Northwestern University in 1982. Her research interests include bioinformatics, pervasive computing, cybersecurity, human and computer interaction, sensor networks, and image processing. Dr Makedon joined the faculty of the University of Texas at Arlington in 2006. Between 1991 and 2006, she has been a professor of computer science and chair of the master program at the Dartmouth College in the Department of Computer Science. While at Dartmouth, she founded and directed the Dartmouth Experimental Visualization Laboratory, or DEVLAB. In 2006, she served as a program director for the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Office of Cyberinfrastructure. Dr Makedon has also taught at the University of Texas at Dallas, where she founded and directed the Computer Learning Research Center (the CLEAR Center), and at the Illinois Institute of Technology. She is the author of numerous research papers, has received many NSF and other awards, and is a recipient of a senior Fulbright award. She is the editor of the
<i>ACM Multimedia Systems Journal, the Journal of E‐Commerce Tools and Applications</i>
, and senior editor of the
<i>International Electronic Journal of E‐Commerce Tools and Applications</i>

). She has graduated more than 15 PhD students and numerous masters students and has served on numerous conference committees and NSF panels. She has supervised PhD students in computational multimedia and pervasive computing algorithms with applications in the areas of bioinformatics, biomedical informatics and sensor‐based assistive environments. With her team, she has been developing data modeling and data analysis tools with broad impact in biomedical computing and bioinformatics, security, and other areas.</p>

<b>Petros Belsis</b>
holds a BSc degree in physics, from the Department of Physics, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and a BSc degree in computer science from the Department of Computer Science, Technological Education Institute of Athens. He also holds an MSc in information systems from the Department of Informatics, Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece, and a PhD in Information and Communication Systems Engineering from the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering, School of Sciences, University of the Aegean, Greece. He has participated in several projects funded by European Union (EU), relative to information systems security, security schemes for coalitions of autonomous systems, knowledge management, cross lingual content‐based information retrieval, and so on. He has worked as a multimedia programmer, and his teaching experience covers both mid‐ and higher‐education levels. His research interests include text categorization, information systems security, and knowledge management. His published scientific work includes several international conference and journal papers.</p>
