Abstract

The spin-reorientation transitions in Tm2Fe17Cx are analyzed in terms of the crystal field and the Tm-Fe exchange interactions. It is deduced that with increasing carbon concentration, the Tm-Fe exchange field decreases slightly, whereas the absolute value of the second-order crystal-field parameter increases dramatically. The carbon concentration and temperature dependence of the magnetic anisotropy of the Tm ions in Tm2Fe17Cx are discussed

<EA>The spin-reorientation transitions in Tm
2
Fe
17
C
x
are analyzed in terms of the crystal field and the Tm-Fe exchange interactions. It is deduced that with increasing carbon concentration, the Tm-Fe exchange field decreases slightly, whereas the absolute value of the second-order crystal-field parameter increases dramatically. The carbon concentration and temperature dependence of the magnetic anisotropy of the Tm ions in Tm
2
Fe
17
C
x
are discussed</EA>
