Abstract

Abstract: The separation of yttrium and erbium nitrate in 4M and 3M HNO3 and in 3M HNO3/1M NH4NO3 was studied with variation of input and characterised by the effective values ofK and β. The relations of these figures to those from distribution experiments in separatory funnels are discussed. By using 11M HNO3 as lower phase yttrium concentrates were made practically free from Tm and Yb, then by use of 4M HNO3 Er was separated from them, yielding over 200 g Y2O3 of purity better than 99,9%.
