Abstract

Abstract: The β-particles emitted from 1 mc of Kr85 sealed in a small nickel capsule were used to excite the characteristic K-X-rays of various elements. It was found that the best arrangement of source and target was with the source sandwiched between two thin foils of the target element. The use of these X-rays as energy references for the calibration of proportional and scintillation counters in the energy region 0 to 100 keV is illustrated. Since the energies of K-X-rays are known to about one part in 104 the accuracy of calibration depends only on the resolution of the instrument under test.

<p>Résumé: Les particules β émises par 1 mc de Kr85 scellé dans une petite capsule de nickel servirent à exciter les rayons-X-K de différents éléments. On découvra que le meilleur arrangement de source et cible fut où la source était serrée entre deux feuilles minces de l'élément servant de cible. On démontre l'emploi de ces rayons-X comme repères d'énergie pour l'étalonnage des compteurs proportionnels et ceux à scintillation dans la gamme d'énergie 0 á 100 keV. Les énergies des rayons-X-K étant connues à une exactitude d'environ 1 : 104, la précision de l'étalonnage dépend seulement de la résolution de l'instrument mis à l'essai.</p>

<p>Zusammenfassung: β-Partikel von 1 mc K85, verschlossen in einer kleinen Ni-Kapsel, wurden verwendet um die charakteristische K- und L-Strahlung verschiedener Elemente anzuregen. Die zwischen zwei dünnen Folien aus dem Targetmaterial gesandwichte Quelle erwies sich als günstigste Anordnung von Quelle und Target. Die Verwendung dieser Röntgenstrahlen als Energie-referenz zur Kalibrierung von Proportional- und Szintillationszählern im Energiebereich von 0–100 keV wird gezeigt. Da die Energien der K- und L-Strahlung bis auf eins in 104 bekannt sind, hängt die Genauigkeit der Kalibrierung nur vom Auflösungsvermögen des untersuchten Instrumentes ab.</p>

<abstract lang="en">Abstract: The β-particles emitted from 1 mc of Kr85 sealed in a small nickel capsule were used to excite the characteristic K-X-rays of various elements. It was found that the best arrangement of source and target was with the source sandwiched between two thin foils of the target element. The use of these X-rays as energy references for the calibration of proportional and scintillation counters in the energy region 0 to 100 keV is illustrated. Since the energies of K-X-rays are known to about one part in 104 the accuracy of calibration depends only on the resolution of the instrument under test.</abstract>
<abstract lang="fr">Résumé: Les particules β émises par 1 mc de Kr85 scellé dans une petite capsule de nickel servirent à exciter les rayons-X-K de différents éléments. On découvra que le meilleur arrangement de source et cible fut où la source était serrée entre deux feuilles minces de l'élément servant de cible. On démontre l'emploi de ces rayons-X comme repères d'énergie pour l'étalonnage des compteurs proportionnels et ceux à scintillation dans la gamme d'énergie 0 á 100 keV. Les énergies des rayons-X-K étant connues à une exactitude d'environ 1 : 104, la précision de l'étalonnage dépend seulement de la résolution de l'instrument mis à l'essai.</abstract>

Былo HaйдeHo, ЧTo HaилyЧшиM p pacпoлoжeHиeM иcToЧHикa и MишeHиявляeTcя Taкoe, пpи кoTopoM иcToЧHик пoMeщaeTcя Meждy двyMя ToHкиMи лиcTкaMи элeMeHetcy;a MишeHи. ПoкaзaHo иcпoльзoвaHиe эToгo peHTгeHoвcкoгo излyЧeHия в кaЧecTвe эTaлoHa эHepгии для гpaдyиpoвaHия пpoпopциoHaльHыч и cциHTиляциoHHыч cЧeTЧикoв в oблacT и эHepгий oT I дo 100 кэв. <abstract lang="de">Zusammenfassung: β-Partikel von 1 mc K85, verschlossen in einer kleinen Ni-Kapsel, wurden verwendet um die charakteristische K- und L-Strahlung verschiedener Elemente anzuregen. Die zwischen zwei dünnen Folien aus dem Targetmaterial gesandwichte Quelle erwies sich als günstigste Anordnung von Quelle und Target. Die Verwendung dieser Röntgenstrahlen als Energie-referenz zur Kalibrierung von Proportional- und Szintillationszählern im Energiebereich von 0–100 keV wird gezeigt. Da die Energien der K- und L-Strahlung bis auf eins in 104 bekannt sind, hängt die Genauigkeit der Kalibrierung nur vom Auflösungsvermögen des untersuchten Instrumentes ab.</abstract>
