Abstract
Abstract: The structure of Y3Pt4Ge6 has been determined and refined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction (R = 0.047 for 40 parameters). The space group is P21/m (Z = 2). The cell parameters are a = 8.6922(26) Å, b = 4.3062(8) Å, c = 13.1615(32) Å and β = 99.45(4)°. The platinum atoms are located in pyramidal sites and build a three-dimensional network with germanium atoms. The germanium and platinum coordination polyhedra of yttrium are hexagonal and pentagonal prisms. The Y3Pt4Ge6-type structure is a new member of the inhomogeneous linear structures built from YIrGe2 and BaAl4 slabs.
