Abstract
Abstract: A new series of perovskite-like mixed platinates Ln2MPtO6 (Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd; M = Mg, Co, Ni, Zn) has been obtained from solid state synthesis. In spite of the difficulty of achieving the formation of pure phases, the crystallographic characterization allows us to point to a GdFeO3 type model with a full 1/1 ordering of the M2+ and Pt4+ cations on the octahedral sites of a distorted ‘ReO3’ network. The results of an X-ray powder Rietveld analysis give evidence of strong crystallochemical similarities with the corresponding iridates and ruthenates. Among the different M2+ cations herein considered, the particular case of Co2+ is emphasized as bringing another proof of the occurrence of its actual size, smaller than modelled.
