Abstract
A la base de la série PII–III de l'Anti-Atlas occidental, de nombreuses lentilles de quartzite, issues du démantèlement de paléoreliefs du socle précambrien, sont emballées dans des niveaux conglomératiques. L'ensemble constitue un olistostrome, qui est surmonté sans interruption majeure par d'autres séries détritiques PII–III, puis PIII. Toutes ces formations chaotiques ont été faiblement déformées, tout comme les séries paléozoı̈ques sus-jacentes, lors du raccourcissement hercynien. La mise en place des séries PII–III représente le début du rifting post-panafricain, qui caractérise la période fini-précambrienne dans l'Anti-Atlas.

Field observations presented here suggest that the PII–III is an olistostrome that is either conformably or disconformably covered by the PIII Series. On the other hand, the Hercynian deformation is the only compression to have affected the PII–III and PIII. L'ensemble constitue un olistostrome, qui est surmonté sans interruption majeure par d'autres séries détritiques PII–III, puis PIII. Toutes ces formations chaotiques ont été faiblement déformées, tout comme les séries paléozoı̈ques sus-jacentes, lors du raccourcissement hercynien. La mise en place des séries PII–III représente le début du rifting post-panafricain, qui caractérise la période fini-précambrienne dans l'Anti-Atlas.</abstract><abstract lang="en">Abstract: At the base of the so-called PII–III series (Late Proterozoic) in the Moroccan western Anti-Atlas, many lenticular quartzitic bodies are embedded within conglomeratic layers. Field observations presented here suggest that the PII–III is an olistostrome that is either conformably or disconformably covered by the PIII Series. On the other hand, the Hercynian deformation is the only compression to have affected the PII–III and PIII. The emplacement of the chaotic ‘PII–III’ series registered the onset of the Late Proterozoic rifting in the Anti-Atlas.</abstract><note>Communicated by Jean Dercourt</note><note type="content">Fig. 1: Schéma géologique de l'Anti-Atlas occidental (d'après [6]).
