- Endosalic (ns): having a salic horizon starting between 50 and 100 cm from the soil surface.
- Episalic (ea): having a salic horizon starting within 50 cm of the soil surface.
- Hypersalic (hs): having an ECe of 30 dS m-1 or more at 25 °C in some layer within 100 cm of the soil surface.
- Hyposalic (ws): having an ECe of 4 dS m-1 or more at 25 °C in some layer within 100 cm of the soil surface.
