Abstract

In France the first cycle reform of medical studies has brought about a compulsory teaching of medical informatics which can be completed by an optional module. As a consequence, an innovative pedagogical process using multi-modal teaching methods has been introduced in the second year programme. These methods put each student in charge of his own teaching by using new technologies such as Internet and visual system conference. The pedagogical scheme for each topic consists of four part : an introductory conference ; self teaching with electronic mail monitoring ; self evaluation completed by corrected test-papers and a synthesis conference. In order not to have to bring together students and their teachers, e-mail and visual conferences are being used as ways of communication.
