Abstract
The concept of reference domain seems essential for resolving references to objects, particularly in dialogue situations involving a shared visual environment. This concept allows to group in a homogeneous manner some heterogeneous constraints used when searching for referents. It also allows to prepare the interpretation of future references. The oppositions between the entities of the information structure are taken into account. Focussing phenomena are also taken into account, using the notion of salience. We present here the strong points of the reference domain model for automatic comprehension in a context involving visual perception, language, and task constraints. Our semantic and pragmatic considerations lead us to ask for the place of reference domains in the syntax-semantics-pragmatics chain. For now, our model appears to be at the semantics-pragmatics interface, but we explore the means to make it the core of the semantic analysis. With this aim, we describe domains that integrate some relevant aspects from verbal semantics, i.e., the influence of the verb on the reference resolution (in terms of constraints) and on the exploitation of thematic roles for the construction of domains (in terms of differentiation and focussing).

Il permet de grouper de manière homogène des contraintes hétérogènes lors de la recherche des référents, ainsi que de préparer le terrain pour de futures références à résoudre. Il rend compte des oppositions portées implicitement par l'énoncé selon sa structure informationnelle, et rend compte de focalisations en classant les éléments qu'il regroupe selon leur saillance. Nous présentons les intérêts de ce modèle de l'interprétation automatique dans un contexte impliquant perception visuelle, geste et langage. Ces considérations sémantiques et pragmatiques nous amènent à nous poser la question de la place du modèle des domaines de référence dans la chaîne syntaxe-sémantique-pragmatique. S'il apparaît actuellement comme un maillon de l'interface sémantique-pragmatique, nous explorons les possibilités d'en faire le noyau de l'analyse sémantique.
