Abstract
STREEMS is one of the prototypes developped within the european project LEONARDO, contract number I795/2/24/2495/P/II.1.1.c. The global objectif of the project is «The realisation of didactic multimedia supporting prototypes for distant training of operators in the domain of forest restoration and re-planting for productive purposes». STREEMS is a multimedia database for managing information of arboreal and shrub species in countries participating in the project (France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain), in compliance with the global objectif of the project. As contained in the global obectif of the project, the users of the database may be farmers or trainers. The prototype allows for «cooperative information research» (CIR) based on the concept of «inter-application communication». Two STREEMS applications runing si multaneously on heterogeneous types of computer archtecture may communicate by sending messages to each other.
