Abstract

The eXtensible Markup Language (XML) has been proposed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to provide structured information to the Web. XML can be used in many different domains. XML allows a standard way of searching, displaying, manipulating, and exchanging data on the Web. It can also be used to identify, exchange, and process distributed data in different applications. This article provides a brief introduction to the use of XML and complements the article in the June issue of CCEJ that focuses on the applications of XML.
