Abstract
This paper presents collaboration between a research lab and a group specialized in numerical art to design "Canal Haptique", a science and art project presented in the context of "Futur en Seine 2011". This project proposes a telepresence platform augmented with a force feedback which enables the experimentation of new sensorial approach for the interpersonal communication. The platform was deployed on the banks of the canal Saint-Martin. It allows to persons who leave the cinema to communicate emotions (surprise, anger, etc.) to persons on the other bank, and thus establish a haptic communication without explicit representation of partner. The comments of users during the "festival de future seines 2011", as well as the experimental results in laboratory, show that the proposed multimodal communication approach increases the feeling of copresence and allows a poetic communication. This paper presents the approach from the genesis of the project to the technical implementation and the experimental study.
