Abstract

Abstract: Eastern Indonesia belongs to a convergent zone between the Asiatic, Australian and Pacific plates. A lot of synthetic papers have been devoted to this very technically active area. Our new geodynamic reconstruction takes into account a six year period of scientific cooperation between France and Indonesia. This cooperation provided various geological data. The hypothesis presented here is based on the geological evolution of lour small commentai blocks (two of which appear for the first time: the Banda und l.ucipara blocks) trapped by the convergence of the threemain plates. The main steps are successively: the Upper Eocene to Oligocene. during which the Banda block collided with the south east asiatic margin in Sulawesi: the Lower Miocene, during which the l.iicipara block (including (he Tukang IJesi platform) collided with the Banda block itself, mainly in the Buton area: the Upper Miocene, which is a period of large extensional regime. Most of the basins inside the Banda area opened at that time (North Banda Basin, South Banda Basin, Savu Basin, etc.). The next interesting period is the Upper Pliocene, which occurred after the main collisions between the Australian continental block and the Banda and Irian Java blocks. The Bangai Sula block collided with the eastern part of Sulawesi at the end of the Lower Pliocene.

<p>Abstract: Eastern Indonesia belongs to a convergent zone between the Asiatic, Australian and Pacific plates. A lot of synthetic papers have been devoted to this very technically active area. Our new geodynamic reconstruction takes into account a six year period of scientific cooperation between France and Indonesia. This cooperation provided various geological data. The hypothesis presented here is based on the geological evolution of lour small commentai blocks (two of which appear for the first time: the Banda und l.ucipara blocks) trapped by the convergence of the threemain plates. The main steps are successively: the Upper Eocene to Oligocene. during which the Banda block collided with the south east asiatic margin in Sulawesi: the Lower Miocene, during which the l.iicipara block (including (he Tukang IJesi platform) collided with the Banda block itself, mainly in the Buton area: the Upper Miocene, which is a period of large extensional regime. Most of the basins inside the Banda area opened at that time (North Banda Basin, South Banda Basin, Savu Basin, etc.). The next interesting period is the Upper Pliocene, which occurred after the main collisions between the Australian continental block and the Banda and Irian Java blocks. The Bangai Sula block collided with the eastern part of Sulawesi at the end of the Lower Pliocene.</p>

<p>Résumé: L'Indonésie orientale correspond á la zone de convergence entre trois grandes plaques: Asiatique, Australienne et Pacifique. De nombreuses synthèses ont vu le jour sur cette zone particulièrement active. Nous proposons ici une nouvelle hypothèse sur Article rédigé à l'attention du Comité de lecture. Article remis le 30 mars 1998, accepté après révision le 3 août 1998. l'évolution géodynamique. Elle tient compte des nombreuses observations effectuées tant à terre qu'en mer (depuis 1989) r des équipes franco-indonésiennes. Cette hypothèse rend compte de la présence de quatre blocs de petite taille (dont deux individualisés pour la première fois: blocs de Banda et de Lucipara) qui se sont trouvés ≪ coincés ≫ entre les trois grandes plaques. Nous donnons la composition des differents blocs et leur cheminement au travers des reconstitutions paléogéographiques pour quatre périodes clés de l'évolution géologique de ette zone. Ces périodes sont: l'Éocène supérieur à l'Oligocène supérieur, au cours duquel le bloc de Banda s'est accrété à la mrge asiatique, le Miocène inférieur,au cours duquel le bloc de Lucipara est entré en collision avec le bloc de Banda, le Miocène supérieur, qui est la grande période d'extension au cours de laquelle se sont formés les principaux bassins entourés par l'arc de Banda, et le Pliocène supérieur, qui succède à la collision entre le continent australien et l'arc de Banda d'une part et lrian Jaya, d'autre part.</p>

<ce:simple-para>Eastern Indonesia belongs to a convergent zone between the Asiatic, Australian and Pacific plates. A lot of synthetic papers have been devoted to this very technically active area. Our new geodynamic reconstruction takes into account a six year period of scientific cooperation between France and Indonesia. This cooperation provided various geological data. The hypothesis presented here is based on the geological evolution of lour small commentai blocks (two of which appear for the first time: the Banda und l.ucipara blocks) trapped by the convergence of the threemain plates. The main steps are successively: the Upper Eocene to Oligocene. during which the Banda block collided with the south east asiatic margin in Sulawesi: the Lower Miocene, during which the l.iicipara block (including (he Tukang IJesi platform) collided with the Banda block itself, mainly in the Buton area: the Upper Miocene, which is a period of large extensional regime. Most of the basins inside the Banda area opened at that time (North Banda Basin, South Banda Basin, Savu Basin, etc.). The next interesting period is the Upper Pliocene, which occurred after the main collisions between the Australian continental block and the Banda and Irian Java blocks. The Bangai Sula block collided with the eastern part of Sulawesi at the end of the Lower Pliocene.</ce:simple-para>

<ce:simple-para>L'Indonésie orientale correspond á la zone de convergence entre trois grandes plaques: Asiatique, Australienne et Pacifique. De nombreuses synthèses ont vu le jour sur cette zone particulièrement active. Nous proposons ici une nouvelle hypothèse sur Article rédigé à l'attention du Comité de lecture. Article remis le 30 mars 1998, accepté après révision le 3 août 1998. l'évolution géodynamique. Elle tient compte des nombreuses observations effectuées tant à terre qu'en mer (depuis 1989) r des équipes franco-indonésiennes. Cette hypothèse rend compte de la présence de quatre blocs de petite taille (dont deux individualisés pour la première fois: blocs de Banda et de Lucipara) qui se sont trouvés ≪ coincés ≫ entre les trois grandes plaques. Nous donnons la composition des differents blocs et leur cheminement au travers des reconstitutions paléogéographiques pour quatre périodes clés de l'évolution géologique de ette zone. Ces périodes sont:

, au cours duquel le bloc de Banda s'est accrété à la mrge asiatique, le

, qui est la grande période d'extension au cours de laquelle se sont formés les principaux bassins entourés par l'arc de Banda, et le

<abstract lang="en">Abstract: Eastern Indonesia belongs to a convergent zone between the Asiatic, Australian and Pacific plates. A lot of synthetic papers have been devoted to this very technically active area. Our new geodynamic reconstruction takes into account a six year period of scientific cooperation between France and Indonesia. This cooperation provided various geological data. The hypothesis presented here is based on the geological evolution of lour small commentai blocks (two of which appear for the first time: the Banda und l.ucipara blocks) trapped by the convergence of the threemain plates. The main steps are successively: the Upper Eocene to Oligocene. during which the Banda block collided with the south east asiatic margin in Sulawesi: the Lower Miocene, during which the l.iicipara block (including (he Tukang IJesi platform) collided with the Banda block itself, mainly in the Buton area: the Upper Miocene, which is a period of large extensional regime. Most of the basins inside the Banda area opened at that time (North Banda Basin, South Banda Basin, Savu Basin, etc.). The next interesting period is the Upper Pliocene, which occurred after the main collisions between the Australian continental block and the Banda and Irian Java blocks. The Bangai Sula block collided with the eastern part of Sulawesi at the end of the Lower Pliocene.</abstract>
<abstract lang="fr">Résumé: L'Indonésie orientale correspond á la zone de convergence entre trois grandes plaques: Asiatique, Australienne et Pacifique. De nombreuses synthèses ont vu le jour sur cette zone particulièrement active. Nous proposons ici une nouvelle hypothèse sur Article rédigé à l'attention du Comité de lecture. Article remis le 30 mars 1998, accepté après révision le 3 août 1998. l'évolution géodynamique. Elle tient compte des nombreuses observations effectuées tant à terre qu'en mer (depuis 1989) r des équipes franco-indonésiennes. Cette hypothèse rend compte de la présence de quatre blocs de petite taille (dont deux individualisés pour la première fois: blocs de Banda et de Lucipara) qui se sont trouvés ≪ coincés ≫ entre les trois grandes plaques. Nous donnons la composition des differents blocs et leur cheminement au travers des reconstitutions paléogéographiques pour quatre périodes clés de l'évolution géologique de ette zone. Ces périodes sont: l'Éocène supérieur à l'Oligocène supérieur, au cours duquel le bloc de Banda s'est accrété à la mrge asiatique, le Miocène inférieur,au cours duquel le bloc de Lucipara est entré en collision avec le bloc de Banda, le Miocène supérieur, qui est la grande période d'extension au cours de laquelle se sont formés les principaux bassins entourés par l'arc de Banda, et le Pliocène supérieur, qui succède à la collision entre le continent australien et l'arc de Banda d'une part et lrian Jaya, d'autre part.</abstract>
