Abstract

Isotopic lymphography offers a very useful method to assess pre-fascial and subfascial lymph transport in the leg. Labelled microcolloids are injected either subcutaneously (pre-fascial lymph-drainage) or into the calf muscle (subfascial lymph-transport) and a standardized walking exercise is performed. Today we prefer a quantitative measurement which consists mainly in a combination of a transmission and an emission-scintigraphy. In the acute stage of a deep vein thrombosis and also in the post-thrombotic limb the deep lymphatic transport is constantly diminished or absent. At the same time the pre-fascial lymph-drainage is enhanced except in cases with recurrent erysipelas or after injection of the tracer into the border of an ulcer.
