<AbstractText Label="OBJECTIVE" NlmCategory="OBJECTIVE">To supplement conventional cross-sectional tomography with a sagittal projection in order to verify the location of vital anatomical structures prior to dental implant surgery.</AbstractText>
<AbstractText Label="METHODS" NlmCategory="METHODS">A method is described that illustrates the theory, technique and benefits of incorporating sagittal tomography into the radiographic examination of a dental implant patient.</AbstractText>
<AbstractText Label="RESULTS" NlmCategory="RESULTS">Local variations in the inferior-superior position of the mandibular canal or encroachment of the sinus on areas immediately adjacent to the proposed maxillary implant site can be demonstrated.</AbstractText>
<AbstractText Label="CONCLUSIONS" NlmCategory="CONCLUSIONS">The additional information gained from sagittal tomography aids the clinician in appreciating the orientation and morphology of the anatomical area under examination.</AbstractText>
