Abstract
New diggings from Pampa de los F6siles Lujanian, Cupisnique desert (Peru), have delivered for twenty years a rich and diverse fauna. This group of fauna is mostly made up of Ground Sloths (Scelidotheriinae, Megatheriidae, Nothrotheriinae, Pampatheriinae). Several skeletal elements related to Scelidodon chiliensis (MNHN CPN 16) were found in the PV22-19 site and dated at 16000 ± 2000 years. These skeletal remains allow us to conform the validity of the Catonyx Ameghino, 1891 and Scelidodon Ameghino, 1881 genera and to broaden the repartition area of Scelidotherlinae. The Pampa de los Fósiles fauna group, essentially constituted of remains of large mammals, is characteristic of a hot and humid climate which contrasts with the present day climate.
