Abstract
The success rate of implants and implant-supported superstructures in the (extremely) resorbed edentulous mandible has as of yet not been equalled by similar treatment options carried out in the resorbed maxilla. The pre-treatment phase (diagnostics, indication and treatment planning), if carried out mutually by the prosthodontist and the implantologist, is of great importance if one wants to obtain high standard treatment goals. To ensure an optimal retention and support of the superstructure and loading of the implants, the insertion of preferably a minimum of six implants, evenly distributed over the maxilla is necessary.
