Abstract

Cross-sectional studies have promoted the view that the gonial angle is increased by age and by the edentulous state. Longitudinal studies do not support this view. It is proposed that the data support the concept that the gonial angle may show enlargement or reduction, as may be expected of any bony angular relationship, and that ageing and loss of teeth are not, and should not be expected to be, the sole determinants of such change.
