Abstract

Kurzfassung: Eine Diskussion der Eigentümlichkeiten der taxonomischen Beschreibungen von F. A. Quenstedt bildet die Grundlage, um die Typserien mehrerer Arten vonStenopterygius aus den Posidonienschiefer (Toarcium) von Holzmaden in der Universitätssammlung Tübingen zu identifizieren.Ichthyosaurus triscissus Quenstedt 1856 ist nach dem Holotypus wahrscheinlich ein älteres Synonym vonS. megacephalus v. Huene 1922. Die Typserie zuS. quadriscissus (Quenstedt 1856) besteht aus 7 Exemplaren verschiedener Altersstufen. Von diesen konnte McGowan (1979) nur eines, den Lectotypus, identifizieren. Weiterhin konnten die beiden einzigen erhaltenen Syntypen zuS. promegacephalus v. Huene 1949 bestimmt werden. Alle Typen werden mit ergänzenden Daten beschrieben und zum Teil erstmals abgebildet.
