Abstract

Abstract: In clinical situations where indicated, the intermediate denture is often preferable to the immediate denture procedure. It not only eliminates some of the undesirable psychologic reactions to the loss of natural teeth, but it provides a more acceptable biologic transition from the dentulous to the edentulous state. An intermediate denture (constructed from impressions made prior to removal of either posterior or anterior teeth) is placed immediately following the removal of the natural teeth; thus, the difficulties created by the absence of posterior teeth during construction of the immediate denture are avoided.
