Abstract

Problem drinkers constitute a large proportion of the clientele of community helping agencies, few of which have taken responsibility for providing adequate treatment for them. The author describes the impact of these persons on the various services, lay and professional attitudes toward problem drinkers, and types of services provided; discusses whether specialized, separate services are advisable; and suggests requirements for adequate community services.
