Abstract

Abstract: The diagnosis of a vitamin deficiency state presents no problem to the clinician when it is present in its classical and overt form. Many of the physical signs are specific to the individual vitamin deficiencies although most patients in practice show a mixed picture due to the deficiency of various nutritional factors. The main difficulty in the diagnosis of overt vitamin deficiency is the failure on the part of the physician to appreciate that such a deficiency may exist in the patient. In most industrialized countries the current but fallacious teaching is that vitamin deficiencies no longer occur.
