Abstract

Alfred Binet's letters to Swiss psychologist Theodore Flournoy are an important document for the history of psychology. From 1892 to 1906, Binet exchanges with Flournoy about their common research interests and also about some intimate life episodes. These twelve letters shows Flournoy as a major collaborator of Binet. By their writings, we discover their collegiate friendship and at the same time some fundamental elements of the birth of European scientific psychology.

            <abstract xml:lang="fr">La correspondance qu'Alfred Binet (1857-1911) a entretenue avec le psychologue suisse Théodore Flournoy (1854-1920) entre 1892 et 1906 se présente comme un document majeur pour l'histoire de la psychologie. Les douze lettres, jusqu'alors inédites, de Binet qui nous sont parvenues retracent l'évolution des recherches du psychologue français autant que la relation d'amitié collégiale qui unit les deux hommes. Cette correspondance nous révèle la place de choix de Flournoy parmi les collaborateurs de Binet et s'impose ainsi comme une voie d'accès privilégiée à la genèse de la psychologie scientifique en Europe à la croisée des XIXe et XXe siècle</abstract>
