Abstract
This short essay by the late editor of The Musical Quarterly appeared as a program note written for a presentation of Cimarosa's opera on April 23, 1933, in the Coolidge Auditorium under the auspices of the Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge Foundation in the Library of Congress. Since the essay as a whole was available to those present only (a small portion of it had been printed in the April 1926 issue of The Musical Quarterly), we are glad to have the opportunity to offer it to a larger public.—Ed.
