Abstract

Jean-Philippe Rameau's opera Dardanus was performed at the palace of Fontainebleau during the annual stay of Louis XV there in 1763. The iconographic sources documenting this performance include plans and cross sections of the theater, drawings of costumes and watercolours of the sets for the prison scene. Archival documents include press commentaries published in the Mercure de France and the dairy of the administrator of the Menus Plaisirs du Roi, Papillon de la Ferté. These documents reflect the changes occuring during the preparation of the performance and give a general idea of the visual aspect of an opera performed in France around the middle of the eighteenth century

<abstract xml:lang="fr">Dardanus, opéra de Jean-Philippe Rameau fut repris au château de Fontainebleau, lors du séjour annuel de la cour en 1763. Pour cette représentation, des sources iconographiques (dessins des plans et coupes du théâtre, modèles de costumes et aquarelle du décor de la prison au dernier acte), de nombreux documents d'archives et le journal de Papillon de la Ferté, intendant des Menus Plaisirs du Roi, permettent de nous renseigner sur les changements intervenus au cours de la préparation et sur la qualité des spectacles de cour vers le milieu du 18e siècle.</abstract>
