Abstract

Le protesi tecnologiche che estendono il corpo dell'umanità sono strumenti di liberazione oppure ostacoli? La risposta di Bergson nelle Due fonti della morale e della religione non è univoca e rivela tanto le aspettative quanto le inquietudini sollevate dalla frenesia industriale alla vigilia della seconda guerra mondiale. Per evitare che l'umanità sia schiacciata dal peso del progresso materiale, egli affida al misticismo la missione di orientare la meccanica. Rintracciare l'origine dell'accostamento tra meccanica e mistica, in particolare attraverso la rilettura dei discorsi politici degli anni Dieci e Venti, permette di leggere le Due fonti da una nuova prospettiva: l'opera matura di Bergson, considerata a lungo come la più spiritualista e conservatrice, si rivela motivata da interrogativi antropologici, sociali e storici che orientano nuovamente la sua filosofia verso la vita.
