Abstract

Comme on le sait, la notion de genre est une convention assez floue ; d'ailleurs sur n'importe quel ouvrage, considéré comme appartenant à un genre littéraire, d'autres genres agissent de façon plus ou moins apparente. Cela est particulièrement vrai pour l'autobiographie : c'est le cas de la "Vita" d'Athanasius Kircher, dont le récit révèle les influences les plus disparates. Cette contribution essaie de montrer comment la narration d'un épisode de la "Vita" s'inspire de la nouvelle et puise ses matériaux dans un chef-d'œuvre de la tradition italienne, le "Décameron" de Boccace, dont l'exploitation passe par un livret d'opéra du futur Clément IX, un ouvrage appartenant lui-même à un genre de frontière.
